IMPORTANT STASTITICS

One in four Americans age 65+ falls each year.  Every 19 minutes an older adult dies as a result of a fall.  Falls are the leading cause of fatal injury among older adults and the principal cause adults enter nursing homes.  Falls result in over 2.8 million injuries treated in hospital emergency rooms costing over $50 billion dollars annually.*

Over one million injuries occur each year as the result of stairway falls.  Stairway accidents constitute the second leading cause of accidental injury, second only to motor vehicle accidents.  Each year, there are nearly 12,000 stairway accidents that eventually lead to death.**

As we grow older our sense of balance begins to diminish.  Similarly, our senses may decline as we age, leading to use of reading glasses or hearing aids.  For some of us the loss of balance is slow, but it is real and often not recognized until we fall.  You may have parents or grandparents and older guests visiting your home.  Their balance may be compromised and thus they are more likely to fall.  If you observe older adults , they often use handrails, when available, for stability and reassurance.  Consider these permanent improvements to your home for increased safety of your family for years to come.  We strive to make these improvements compatible with your home's décor.  Please note: Your improvements may not fully prevent falls, but they may reduce the risk of falling.  It's like trying to avoid catching a cold knowing your efforts may not prevent all exposure.  Call us at 614-761-0368 and leave your name and phone number and our manager, John Seiling , will arrange an appointment for a home visit by one of our professionals.  Their is a fee of $50.00 due at the time of the inspection which is waved, if a person over 65 is a resident.

FALLING IS THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF DEATH FOR SENIORS OVER AGE SIXTY-FIVE!  *
